Life is complex, with millions of species alive today and countless more having existed in the past and gone extinct. Life science, the study of living organisms, encompasses everything from microscopic single-celled organisms to complex multicellular animals such as humans. While each branch of life science has its own specific knowledge and theories, two foundational concepts underpin them all: the cell theory and the theory of evolution by natural selection, both extensively tested and supported by substantial evidence. Acta Scientifica Malaysia covers all areas of life sciences, including ecology, botany, zoology, microbiology, entomology, cell biology, physiology, genetics, epidemiology, and paleontology, providing a comprehensive platform for research and knowledge across the discipline.
